My name is Lilly Fasino, and I am an AmeriCorps Community Health worker serving with the Epilepsy Foundation of New England. I serve in Mansfield Massachusetts. I was drawn to the Foundation from my own childhood experience with Epilepsy. Growing up I always knew I was different, a bit more delayed than everyone my age. My brain worked different and often I felt like everyone at school thought I was “weird” but really my brain was just working differently than theirs. As I got older, I outgrew my seizures and started to become more aware of how hard it was navigating neurodiversity. Now as an adult, I watch my nephew struggle with his rare form of Epilepsy. I want to connect individuals living with epilepsy and their families to resources and support. After my year of serving, I plan to continue my journey supporting and advocating for those living with Epilepsy.
